About us

by Lucy O'Dell, Principal and teacher at Inception Dance

I trained as a professional dancer and teacher and hold Registered Teacher Status with the Royal Academy of Dance, Associate Teacher with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and a BA (Hons) in Dance Studies. I have over 20 years' experience teaching a variety of dance styles from baby ballet in local schools to advanced ballet and pointe work at Pineapple Studios, Covent Garden; from modern, jazz and tap for budding performers to contemporary dance for adults. In all cases I believe in creating a welcoming, fun-filled environment where talent is nurtured, technique is developed but most of all everyone loves what they do. For little ones this means classes filled with props, instruments, fairy wands and lively music! For older dancers, this means creating an atmosphere where everyone can ask questions, listen to their bodies, challenge themselves both physically and mentally and dance to a level they are comfortable with, making new friends along the way.

Teaching the internationally recognised Royal Academy of Dance syllabus as well as creative free work, there are ample opportunities for students to prepare for examinations and perform to an audience if they wish.

Exam results

My results for all students entered for ballet exams under my name over my teaching career include 63% passing with Distinction and 37% passing with Merit.

A huge congratulations to those who completed their exams in the last session. Distinctions across the board! You deserve it!
